Koelsch in Dublin?

I don't know about Dublin outlets but down here in Cork City the Franciscan Well Brewery & Pub, North Mall, Cork +353 21 210130 do a fantastic Kolsch, their 4.2% ABV Blarney Blonde. Give them a ring to find outlets (if any) in Dublin. I do seem to recall that they do have some connection with one or two Dublin bars so a quick call might well be worth it.

There is also one specialist beer importer here in Cork which imports German (and Belgian) beers and distributes them to the few specialist beer bars scattered throughout the Republic. I don't have contact details on me but they own a Cork pub, the fantastic Abbot Ale House on Coburg Street, and I'll pop in to get the phone number, email addy, a list of German Beers they import and any regurar clients up in Dublin, I'll post back here when I've got the info.

IIRC, both the Porterhouse and Messrs Maguire in Dublin brew a Kolsch type beer every so often. Never tried it though :-(

Not such an odd question. There's an Irish pub or two in Cologne, and in several other German cities. My uncle lives in Berlin, and there's an Irish pub right across the street from his apartment.

there's Irish pubs in every minor and major city of the Northern Hemisphere, and, no doubt in most of the 'lower' part of the globe too. But our travelling friend probably wants lambic in Madrid and Sahti in Brussels...

So why would such things be a problem? I can name a good pub or two in Seattle where lambics are available - lovely Belgian lambics in good shape. Yeah, Ireland is the home of stout, but these days, if there's a pub with a variety of beers on, and one happens to be Früh or Reissdorf Kölsch, is that a terrible thing? After all, it wasn't so long ago that you were enjoying a nice session at a pub in London that's been known to serve a nice glass of Kölsch. Is that a bad thing?

Just a couple of weekends ago, I was drinking draught Leipziger Gose at a Seattle pub, too. Bad? I realize such a thing is not an everyday occurence, but it was nice to have while it lasted.

OK, if you insist to take it up seriously what I meant as sarcasm.

When I went to Denver last month, and happened to be offered Gose - I drank too. But in general, when I'm traveling, I'm looking forward to enjoy to LOCAL specialities. Usual that's what is best, anyway. On the Westcoast, I'll go looking for hopmonsters. If I go to Dublin, I'll drink stout at the Porterhouse and look around what new things the brewpubs might have in stock. That MIGHT be Kölsch, and I MIGHT try it.

But travelling to Dublin and asking for Kölsch, that is spoilt kids' reaction, IMO.

OK! Point taken. My mistake. But if you want to send them the best of Kölsch, you will still have to buy it in Köln, and spent an awful lot of money on transportation costs.

I used to live in Solingen between Koeln and Duesseldorf-strange thing was that Koelsh was not the thing to drink in Duesseldorf and Alt was not the thing to drink in Koeln. As an English beer fan I found this very strange. Roy
