PNW beer recommendation

My wife is headed up to Portland this weekend for bussiness and I've managed to talk her into being my mule and bringing back some beer. I live in the SF Bay Area so I can already get my hands on a lot of the beer coming out of OR but I know there is much that I have never had. I'm looking for recommendations of IPAs and pilsners or other good lagers (I know its tough to find good lagers in the PNW but there's gotta be some) please feel free to reccomend anything else that is FG as well.

Thanks,

mike

Which part of Portland will the missus be in for business? There are a couple of very good beer stores in the area, Belmont Station on the east side of the city, and Liquid Solutions out in the southwestern suburbs.

PDX != PNW. I could send you to a great Seattle beer shop to pick up some lagers from the region, but not all of them are available in PDX. I'd venture to guess that most aren't.

There are lagers available, but lagers not available in the Bay Area? Hmmm. Elysian Pilsner, and if available, a seasonal Bock. La Conner Brewing's lagers aren't available in Oregon, AFAIK; don't know if Maritime Pacific's bottled beers are either, as they do a Pilsner. You can probably already get Deschutes Pine Mountain Pilsner. Rogue Imperial Pilsner? Full Sail Pilsner?

No, there are none. Nada. Zip. Forgetaboutit.

Rogue's is bottled in 26oz ceramic swing-top's ($12 at the brewery this last weekend), but around Portlandia...dunno. Don't think FS is bottling their fine pils this year; they seem to be bottling several varieties of amber/bitter/porter/stout nowadays instead. Guess they're selling.

The Liquid Sol'ns and Belmont Station will have the very fine Luvin Lager (named for the brewer) from Siletz. Pine Mountain is FG, of course.

Hey, you can get Victory pils up here now, but be careful, the stuff's delicate and goes way, way south unexpectedly.

IPA's...I don't bother with many these days. The vast majority of what I buy for home these days is German lager/pils, Pine Mtn, and Prima (even though it's often in rough shape--well within the best-by dates). And the occasional Belgo treats.

Eh, overall, I say, nothing worth sending the Mrs. out to haul heavy bottles back for you. Siletz, maybe.

How the mighty have fallen...into brainy sophistication. Aren't lagers keen, Nick?

I prefer Liquid Solutions, though nearly had to sell my first born child to get everything I wanted there.

I don't see anyone else mentioning McMenamin's. They've a series of pubs all over the city and suburbs and you can typically buy 22oz bottles at each pub.

Here's their pub list:

Posting with reckless abandon, sorry. Careless keyboard shortcutting.

I've no comments or experience with their pales, however they've some smashing stouts (Terminator and Hammerhead). You might like the Cascade Head Pale Ale.

Whoops, also misattributing. I said that, above. I am now stepping away from the keyboard and going to work.

luckily i can get me hands on Pine Mountain pils (although its been tough to find this year), I've yet to try the Rogue but with the new pub opening in SF I should be able to find some there. We get the Prima down here as well but as was mentioned its often rather old.

Thanks for the suggestions.
