I was in a restaurant in Paris (near la Bastille) called Chez Paul. They have a really cool, vintage Elektra machine that makes great espresso (c. 1970?). I was just wondering, are machines like these readily available? Even if they aren't in working order, they can't be too tough to rebuild, can they? I have a stove top collection, but you can't beat the taste from one of these old beauties. AJ

OK, here's what I mean; I WANT ONE!! It looked like it was built c.1970 (nobody that worked there seemed to know much about it :-( ) and it had an art deco design to it. Same lines/look as a South Beach hotel. It appeared to have 2 steam spouts -- one at each end, and 2 places to set your cup i.e. 2 bayonet coffee thingy attachments. Does anyone know if an espresso maker like this is available, or do the coffee companies just crush them like an old Pontiac? (side bar; I was told by an aquaintance that the cafes in France don't actually own their espresso machines, the coffee companies do, with the assumption that they the cafe will buy and use only their coffee. Sorta like Coca-Cola owning the coolers at your local gas station. You'll NEVER see a can of Pepsi inside one.
