Extract to Grain Conversion

Does anyone have a useful formula for converting an extract recipe to all-grain? I would need a formula for both extract syrup to grain, and powdered or DME to grain. Thanks.

When I want to convert I go to

or

and enter the extract or grain recipe and hit calculate then take note of the color, OG and ABV. Then I change the grains or extract (one at a time), then hit calculate. I adjust the amount until the color, OG and ABV match the original recipe. I change one ingredient at a time. It works and it is FREE!

If you are looking for the conversion factor, just use the above mentioned sites and do 1 lb of each (separately) to calculate the conversion

Quick rule of thumb for DME is 1 lb DME = (roughly) 2 lbs fermentable grain. I never used LME so I can't give you an equivalent for that.

At 75% efficiency, you get about 27 points/lb.gal. (ppg) from grain. DME is 47 ppg, and LME is 36 ppg. For anything other than plain light extract, you're on your own. There's no way to know what's in amber or dark extracts, so there's no reliable way to convert the ingredients. You can pnly convert the fermentables.
