China and India have the highest obesity rates. Tea is a mild diuretic. If you substitute tea for sugar flavored drinks like pop or even orange juice you will probably lose weight. Also if you drink a lot of tea it will kill the appetite. If you drink tea as a medicine you will find another to replace it. Tea is no miracle cure but prolonged use seems to show up in population studies.

I drink green tea on occasion, but I much prefer black tea as my daily tea. In fact, I like to experiment with a wide variety of teas and tisanes just to keep things interesting.

The first hit I got on a search including the USA, India, and China explicitly was this:

Clearly the USA is far more obese than India and China.

Searching for just ?obesity by country?, the NationMaster compilation of OECD obesity statistics is the first hit. This puts the USA at #1 for obesity (30.6% of total population) and the UK at #3 (23%):

So what?s your source?

I came across a factoid the other day. Tea boosts metabolism by 12%. Coffee by 8%. While patting myself on the back I read further water beats either by increasing metabolism 15%. Looked at it that way tea actually inhibits metabolism but explains why it is better than coffee.
