method

without thorough testing i think i get better results by first using less hot water 1st-2nd infusion

is this true or am i imagining things?

technically i suppose its hydrating the leaf so next infusion has better success at getting flavor out.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying.

First, are you talking about water that's less hot, or a smaller amount of hot water?

Second, are your results better for the later steeps (after the first couple that you think are hydrating the leaves) or are *all* the steeps better?

By the way, I don't think there's any mystery as to when the leaves are fully hydrated. They *look* different. When they've reached the point where more steeping doesn't really change their appearance, they're fully hydrated. If the tea is pretty much unoxidized/fermented, you might say the leaves are fully hydrated when they look alive.
