It's actually called "Soukenbicha". Not that it matters, because a Google search with that yielded no real leads either. You might just want to drop by a Japanese grocery in your area to see if they stock it.

Also, for the record, this bottled tea isn't really pure tea. It's a blend of many things, including barley, wheat, herbs, and grass-like plants. Oh, and it has some Pu-erh as well. At least, this is what the advertising jingle for Soukenbicha says it contains.

You might try contacting the folks at theflyingpig.com. They sell Sokenbicha online to buyers in Japan via an English-language website at:

for more details. Perhaps you can arrange for them to ship some to you? (FYI, I have no connection to that company or their website, and I've never done business with them.)

I would try Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater NJ. There are also three store I know of in NYC worth a try- Sunrise Mart, Morning to Midnight, and JASmart. JASmart is a mini-chain located in Manhattan (one store in near Grand Central Terminal another on East 23 near Braodway, and another on St. Mark's Place in the East Village). MtM and Sunrise Mart are both in the East Village, which has a growing Japanese population. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much. I've seen that site. In fact, I've seen every site that's close to what they do, and I haven't found one yet that offers Sokenbicha. I couldn't tell whether or not they would ship to the USA but based on what you've said and my recollection of the "shipping method" they offer, it appears that they do only ship to Japan at present. They also have not so pleasing payment methods as well (no credit cards yet etc.).

We do have several Japanese orriented food stores in my greater area so I'll probably try one of them first before I do anything else.

Thanks once again.

Precisely what I'll be doing. I'll call first to see if they carry it. They might even order it. It's a 50 mile or so hike from my house but I only need to go every so often and buy it in bulk.

Those would be a bit out of the way given where I work in Manhattan. Also, I'd have to haul it home on the commuter trains unless they'd be willing to ship. But in a pinch, you never know.

Thanks much.

Thanks to all who responded. The Mitsuwa Supermarket of Edgewater NJ (and I

*do* mean "Super"), had plenty of Sokenbicha (and pretty much everything else), and I was able to buy my fill of it. That place is huge, and not only has a full supermarket but several restaurants inside the building as well as a complete line of separate Japanese specialty shops across the street (Books Kinokuniya etc.).

If you're looking for any kind of Japanese tea, or "anything" for that matter in the George Washington Bridge area, that's the place.
