World Tea Festival

On September 6 and 7, 2003, the First World Tea Festival will be held in Moscow. The Festival is to assist the further development of trade relations between Russia and the tea-producing countries as well as to promote a healthier way of life. The Festival will be held between the old Kremlin walls and St. Basil Cathedral. For two days, this historic area will be transformed into a "City of Tea Civilizations". Visiting specialized pavilions fulfilled in accordance with national architectural styles, the guests will have a chance to get acquainted with tea drinking traditions of different countries of the World. There will be a wide range of products and goods for tea drinking as well as performances of folk collectives from participating countries. The aim of the Convention is to appeal to all nations to obtain peaceful dialogue and harmonious co-existence.

PRESS-RELEASE
On September 6 and 7, 2003, during the Day of city celebrations, the First World Tea Festival will be held in Moscow. According to the Order No 756 of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation dated May 19, 2003, the Organizers of the Festival are: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Russian Tea & Coffee Association "Rosteacoffe", “World Tea & Coffee Festival” and “Da Tun” Tea Culture Club. The Organizing Committee of the World Tea Festival is headed by the Vice-chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Mr. A. Gordeev and the Mayor of Moscow Mr. Y. Luzkov.
The Festival is called out to assist the further development of trade relations between Russia and tea-producing countries and to popularize healthy way of life.
The Tea Holiday that will take place on September 6-7, 2003 on Vasilyevskiy Spusk between the old Kremlin walls and St. Basil Cathedral is going to be the main event of the Festival. According to the special project of the leading Russian stage designer Boris Krasnov the historical area of the Vasilyevskiy Spusk will be transformed into a “City of Tea Civilizations” for two days of celebration. Visiting specialized pavilions fulfilled in accordance with national architectural styles, the guests will have a chance to get acquainted with tea drinking traditions of different countries of the World. The wide range of products and goods for tea drinking will be presented in the trade-fair stalls organized on the square area. The performances of folk collectives from countries participants of the Festival are also included to the program of the holiday.
The official inaugural ceremony of the First World Tea Festival will take place in Moscow on September 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. on the Vasilievsky Spusk of the Read Square. During the ceremony attended by high-ranking governmental officials and honorable guests the diplomas and souvenirs will be handed to the partners of the Festival by representatives of the Organizing committee.
A Diplomatic Party “Tea Cup of Peace” organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to discuss the “Tea Convention of Peace” will be held in Moscow in Kuskovo memorial estate as one of the events of the Festival. The aim of the Convention is to appeal to all nations to obtain peaceful dialogue and harmonious co-existence. An exposition ”Russian Tea Drinking” confined to the event will be exhibited in Kuskovo Palace to present different utensils, accessories and longstanding traditions of Russian tea culture.
A souvenir Tea Catalogue “World of Tea – Tea of the World” is impending to be published. The edition will include unique historical materials and near thousand of illustrations on tea topic. The Catalogue will contain presentational materials of the companies-participants of the Festival.
A number of events - various exhibitions and competitions, national Tea weeks of different countries, conferences and seminars devoted to tea will be held in culture centers of Moscow.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation appointed autonomous non-commercial organization “World Tea & Coffee Festival” to be the main operator in organizing and leading of the event.
