A few Adelphi drams - my Christmas treat - comments please

Hi all,

It seems I've been a very good boy (again!), and the Santa is going to treat me with a few nice bottles (but don't ask me how I know). They are all from Adelphi, and the lineup is: Glenrothes 1990 13yo Caol Ila 1991 12yo Tomintoul 1967 36yo cask 4481 Tomintoul 1967 36yo cask 4479

Has anyone on this NG actually had any of these? What I know about the above is: (1) The Glenrothes is so superb it can be compared to Mortlach 16yo. It is a first-fill sherry cask by the look of it. (2) The Tomintouls are only 2 casks apart from one another, but they are two different whiskies. That's all. I'm looking forward to sampling the two 1967s, whatever they are worth, as they are exactly as old as I am, which always gives whisky this extra sweetness.

Any comments will be more than appreciated. And naturally, you will have an account of the tasting.

Cheers, Rajmund

Hi Rajmund

I tasted the Caol Ila and the Glenrothes during the Autumn Whisky Festival in Dufftown this year. Susan from Adelphi gave us a great many treats on that particular tasting. They are both great whiskies, although the Glenrothes in not what you could call a standard Glenrothes, it's a great dram - but what stood out was the Caol Ila. Teriffic dram - you're really in for a treat. Peat, power, sweetness, salt, sea - it's a true Caol Ila as it should be, IMHO.
