Hei,

Nope, I'm in Sweden. Yes I've ordered there two times without any problems. I orderd the 1991 Murray McDavid Ardberg (60 euro) and a bottle of Penderyn (51 euro) the last time, haven't tried the Penderyn yet, but the Ardbeg was exelent!

I belive that when the "deliver" to Norway, You actally have to pick up Your order on the other side of the border...

Glad to see you straying "off topic" with the Penderyn. That's distilled in Wales about 30 miles from where I live, and is the only whisky distillery in the UK, as opposed to Bushmills which produces whiskey. The distillery has only been open 8 years, so there's no independent bottlings yet, and nothing of any age. so Penderyn is actually rather expensive so far.

Interesting Roger. I have never heard of this before. It kind of wakes up an interest in me. I have sampled Ilse of Man whisky before. Manx Whisky I believe its called, but cannot remember too well. It was at a whisky fest here in The Netherlands a few years ago. The Manx whisky ( if thats its real name) was as clear as Gin. It had no colour to it at all. So I guess if thats still in production, then there are more whisk(e)y destilleries in the U.K. But Isle of Man has some kind of special status does it not? Anyway could you share some tasting notes on the Penderyn please? My curiosity is awakened.

Peace,

Jock

Yeah, but then you'll have to pay taxes at the customs office - steep ones...! Anders

I haven't bought the Pandering yet... I tried some 5 year old at a tasting about 4 years ago.. felt it to be immature.. not as rounded as the 5yo Lochranza which was available at roughly the same time.

says:

The Isle of Man has never had a legal whiskey distillery and the closest anyone ever got to distilling whiskey on the island is when the Glen Kella distillery started re-distilling Scotch whisky and bottling it as 'Manx White Whiskey'. Following a court ruling, it is now marketed as 'Manx Spirit'.

There was a "Wisgi Cymraeg (Welsh Whisky) market some years back, but it was an average malt blended with herbs in Wales, and so misnamed.

Here's what Serge (whiskyfun) wrote, if that can be of interest:

Reading what Serge writes it seems like buying a bottle of Penderyn might have been a mistake, he discribes the kind of pallet that would make one's tongue want to go into hiding... I think I'll leve the bottle on display for the time beeing, it is nicely designed anyway..

We tasted Penderyn in Wales a few months ago. As I mentioned here at the time, it tasted much more of anise than of any flavor usually associated with whisky. In a blind tasting, I'd never have identified it as a whisky -- I'd have thought it was a liqoeur.

Give it a few more years. Don't forget their water is probably filtering through sheep shit at some stage. We have a few sheep in Wales

Still, if you check out Serge's link to "Celtic Malts" just above the Penderyn article, you'll find another opinion. Tasting and what you appriciate will have to be a highly subjective matter, though. And getting to taste the first welsh whisky distilled in more than 100 years must be a happening anyway?
