Glasgowtrip

Hi all

I'll probably will be going on a trip to Glasgow in an couple of weeks and is wondering if anyone of you have any nice places there or in the surroundings to visit for a whiskylover ;-)

And as I especially like the Islay malts, I surely be intrested in going there too. Is there any easy way to make it from Glasgow to Islay (and back ;-) ) ?

All suggestions welcome!!

It may suit you more to hire a car ( Scotland's not that big ) . But be aware the bridge from the mainland to Islay has a toll booth. The upside is that you get to those wonderful Islay distilleries. Rob

Greetings from Malmo, Sweden

We did a similar trip just a month ago. We visited both Islay and Glasgow and as you might tell from the pictures and video on our web site we had a great time and a lot of fun. I'm sure you will to! Check out our web site at:

then proceed to click on the link "Islay 2004".

You can hire a car very cheap at Glasgow.

. It is a daughter company of Easy Jet and you get a small A class mercedes for as little as 9 pounds a day. Take the Erskine bridge near Glasgow and go up Loch Lomond and cut across to Inverary and down Kyntire to the Islay Ferry crossing. Its very picturesque. Whiskies in Scotland are not as cheap as the continent of Europe.

I really wouldn't suggest trying to drive over the bridge unless you've had several Large drams first :-)

There's no bridge to Islay, but a ferry connection. It takes about 90 punds for a car and 2 passengers. The bridge you mean is on Skye (7 pounds).

I would recommend taking the two small ferries between Glasgow and Kennacraig before taking the longer one to Islay.

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. This is quite interesting for our Bodem Society as well. Next year we will organize a trip that looks suspiciously similar to what here is opted.
