Glenlivet

I just picked up a bottle of Glenlivet--I've never had it before. Anyone have any opinions about it?

A very nice Speyside whisky. It was once considered the very best, but has today faded with the present fad being pungent, in-your-face, iodinic, tarry, smoky and salty coarse whiskies from the western islands.... You can do far worse than choosing a Glenlivet - sip it straight. :-) Anders

The 12 yo is my personal favorite.

Nectar! Have tried various ages, not a lot in it I think but I remember enjoying the 15 more than the 18. Everyone should at least try it.

I have a bottle of 12, french oak 12, and 18 - for some reason I like the FO more...

When I got interested in scotch I came to this news group and asked for some good starter scotch's. I made a list of everyone's recommendations. Glenlivet 12 seemed to have been mentioned a lot by the posters, so that's the first single malt scotch I ever bought and tried. After trying other brands of scotch, I really have no desire to try Glenlivet 12 again. I didn't find it bad, nor did I find it good. Perhaps I might pick up the 18 someday, but I'm in no rush to buy it like I am with Glenfiddich 15 Solera Reserve.

I advise to skip the 18 and grab the 21 for your next Glenlivet. I like the

18 less than the 12's.

For what it's worth.

Same here, for both my wife and me. The FO is quite nice and very reasonably priced.

I prefer The Macallan 12/15/18...the 25 yold I tried at a promotional dinner was lovely but I only have two arms and two legs. The 15 is hard to get in Australia and the 18 is around $125 to $170 ($Aust.)depending on the year. The 12 is around $65 to $80 but a bloody fine drop.
