home vatting

When I get down to the end of malts, I like to try vatting the remains of 2 together. Tonite it was Dalmore 12 and Glen Garioch 10. Really very nice. The small peatyness of the Glen Geery seemed to get much peatier when blended with the non-peaty Dalmore. Dunno why, but I like it.

I don't usually home vat, but I was very unhappy with the recent Springbank 10yos so I began adding about 1/4 Caol Ila 19yo CS (sig)... made all the difference in the world.

Does your bottle of Springbank 10y.o. have the name of the distillery embossed on the bottle, just below the neck? I've read that two versions of this malt have been released: first an unadorned bottle, and then one containing the embossment.

Mine is the later, and I like it quite a lot. In fact, it may be the best ten-year-old single malt I've tried, and I certainly wouldn't want to pour anything else into it. The only thing holding me back from buying more is the rediculous $75 the state monopoly is charging for it.

Yes, this was the one with "Springbank" embossed on the bottle. I also had one of the the other ones which was really subpar for this awesome distillery.

My favorate 10 year old is probably the '91 Longrow sherrywood. I bought a bunch of it despite the pricetag of about $79. I wasn't even mad about buying a bunch of the pre-vintage Longrow 10 sherrywood at $110--it was worth it!
