Scapa - Pleasant Surprise

Mar 28, 2007 3 Replies

I had heard various things about the Scapa 12, but I bought some anyway. It is REALLY quite surprisingly nice.

Very light. Long finish. Some velvet. A little like the Glenfarclas CS without the mule kick to the head. Vanilla. Not particularly complex, but would actually be a good starter for someone looking for a first single malt. Probably 3rd behind the Glenfarclas CS and Glendrannoch 12 yo as a sort of daily dram.

Agreed. It's surprisingly complex.

I'll try those other 2. I'm biased towards the Scapa for genealogical reasons, but am most willing to try others.

I didn't even realize ther was a Scapa 12. I've tasted the 14 and quite like it. Lots of sweet caramel and butter toffee with a little twinkle of salt. Have you tried the 14? How does it compare with the

12?

Here are my notes on the 14 (posted as Colin).

The 14 has replaced the 12.
