Scotch in a hot car

Down here in NC that's about how it is all year. I'm always buying whisky and leaving it in the car whilst doing other errands. And it's always HOT here. The whisky seems to hold up just fine. Wish I could say the same about the ice cream.

I'm thinking such a short duration won't hurt a thing. Probably didn't help, but you'd probably need instrumentation to detect any change if any exists.

You forgot to give me your address. And I wouldn't dream of putting you out like that anyway, as it is rare to see such generosity for it's own sake.

I might be forced to buy a 2nd bottle of one of them as the bottle winds down, just to try a little hth...hmmm. Only for the sake of research mind you.

I've been working on a bottle of Talisker 18 which, sadly, is nearing bottom. But in the same corner of the cabinet there's a cask strength Caol Ila and the Ardbeg Uigeadail, so I am consolable.

Shouldn't hurt anything. The whiskey stays in casks in sheds in Scotland for 10 or 12 or 15 years, surviving summers. I doubt the storage facilities are temperature-controled like wine cellars. The alcoholic acts like an anti-freeze / anti-boil. :-)

Now, if the bottles had been opened, some of the contents used, air let in, recorked, then exposed to high temp for several hours, some oxidation will occur, and can damage the flavor. (Which is why I always store partly-used whiskey bottles in refrigerator or freezer instead of at room temp; slows-down flavor degradation due to oxidation of the esters and other flavor elements.) But if you didn't let air in, that won't be a problem.

(PS: sorry about my blank reply a few minutes ago; my finger slipped and I double-clicked the "Reply" button instead of single-clicking it. With Outhouse Express, that sends a blank reply. Grrr. Embarassing.)
