hah. evan williams black. has a better pedigree too.
Please ... don't get started again.
This group is for Scotch. There are other groups that are appropriate for other whiskies. Be a good lad and f*ck off to one of them, eh?
cheers,
Henry
I've been posting in this group for 10 or 12 years, Henry, and this group has *always* and emphatically been open to discussions about other kinds of whisk(e)y, not to mention an occasional foray into other kinds of spirits, wines and beers.
What has always been frowned upon is using language that may offend other posters -- such as you have used in your post. Now be a good lad and play nice with the other kids, okay?
I've been posting in this group for four years and the topics have almost always been focussed on Scotch, with the occasional foray into other flavours duly noted with, for example, 'OT' (= off-topic) in the subject line or with the message beginning something like 'Excuse me, but...' Once in a while, this is OK. Last year, this fellow bobwald appeared and started posting about everything under the sun _except_ Scotch whisky. It got old _real fast_, as the Yanks say.
Langauge is language, mate. Usenet is usenet. And the real world is the real world. If you can't stand the heat, stay out the kitchen.
cheers,
Henry
With _all due_ respect, Henry, there's no reason to be contentious, is there? I mostly post here about Scotch whisky, but sometimes about Irish, Bourbons or others. Now, have a wee dram and relax.
Slainte mhath!
Nick, Henry has a point. bobwald's posting history is pretty clear - he has no interest in the stated topic of the group. His motivation for posting here is questionable at best.
Nah. If you can't stand the heat, kick the heat source out of the kitchen.
Bye, Henry. {plonk}

I hadn't even noticed Henry's response was to bobwald, who has been in my killfile for ages. So I didn't see his original post.
But the problem with bobwald is not that he posts off-topic, it's that he contributes nothing to the group. He's not interested in single malt, or any other kind of spirit; he just wants to babble about one brand of mediocre Canadian whiskey.
I think the solution to that is to filter him out or plain ignore him. Engaging him in a flame war is out of keeping with the group's gentle traditions.
I suspect he (Bob, that is) is not playing with a full deck, and so attempts to bring him into general discussion are probably doomed to failure. Killfiling him is probably the best answer, sadly.
Jim (currently sipping a Benromach Peat Smoke. Interesting dram, has a sort of Bunnahabhain undertone to it)
Given Henry's wonderful grasp of the language, I also have added his wonderfulness to my own kill file. I do NOT need to read that teenage angst on an adult newsgroup. We have, in fact, evolved. All, perhaps, except Henry.

Are you _American_? Praise JESUS!
Might I suggest that you add me as well; I also am likely to say things like I see them, which seems to be something you choose to be offended by.
Dave: look at the Book of Matthew, chapter 7, verse 6 --
'Cast ye not your pearls before the swine'.
Let those who are 'offended' killfile whom they will. After all, Janet Jackson's boob for less than two seconds sent millions of them into paroxysms of lust and guilt.
Meanwhile, I'm ready for a wee dram of the Caol Ila 18 I picked up last year in Port Askaig.
cheers,
Henry
Well OK, if you insist. I am way less upset by what you might say as the crude way with which you might say it. I certainly believe in your right to say what you mean, but I also defend my right not to be offended by the way in which you say it.
I am still not sure why so many folks on usenet feel that they MUST be so uncivil. It's like a badge of dishonor I guess.
So low we have all fallen.
