Tipping at the bar

how much should i tip at the bar/pub etc. Is it the standard 15%? or should it be more. What should i take in consideration? the kind of food/drinks served, how much time i spend there.

thank you

In the US, I tip 30% at a bar, UK 20%, Thailand 10%. Depends on service.

Ever consider taking that extra "look at me, the big tipper!" 15% and putting it where your mouth is: in the hands of a veterans' health care organization?

Depends on the service and if you ever expect to be back. For me happy, pleasant and competant service gets 15%.. if I plan to be a regular that will increase over time to a top of about 20%.. I find that I get my drinks order when I walk in.. I never have to wait long for a seat, I get first nod for specials, larger shots etc.

Sub par service gets anything from 1 dollar to 10-15% depending on just how bad it gets.

Nobody tips in the bars in Ireland. And I have never seen it in the U.K. either. Everyone tips the lounge staff when drinks are brought to you at your table, though. A barman wouldn't even take a tip in some places.

True but whenever I'm over there, "pour one for yourself" goes over rather well. I've had the barman remember me (often positivly) from one year to the next.

If I'm sitting at the bar, I usually tip at least a dollar everytime the bartender serves me a drink, then I tip about 15% on the tab.

In the UK and Ireland and assuming you are not eating then do not tip, though you may wish to invite the bar staff to "get one in for yourself".
