What Do You Think of Johnnie Walker Black Label?

Ok, for one reason or another I try to only buy single malt scotch. But, on my recent cruise I decided to pick up a bottle of whisky in their liquor store. Something to remember the cruise by. They didn't have any good single malt scotch available.

Seems the nicest they had was this Johnnie Walker Black Label.

So, what's your opinion of this? I've never bought or had Johnnie Walker before. I do know they are world famous. Johnnie Walker is the most popular whisky in the world, right?

What's the word on the Black Label? Is it considered an average whisky? Above average?

Thanks!

I've tried a lot of different blends most of them only once, there are a few that I don't turn my nose up at.

Black Label isIMO One of the better blends, it actually has a depth .. I prefer it to the Blue (The Blue is good just not as good as it's sticker price) and Gold.

Their vatted Green label is in a different category.

If asked to rank blends I'd put the Black around 3 or 4 Blue right behind it The Chivas 18 at #1 and Chivas Royal Salute at #2 ... I also liked BlackBottle the only times I was able to try it and it would scrap for 3rd 4th and 5th..

I've never tried Black Label but I recently got hold of a bottle of Green Label, which is a blend of single malts. It's surprisingly good.

I had a small dram of the Black Label last night. It was surprising tasty. It has a rich and slightly dark flavor that I like in whisky. Not as sharp tasting as say my Highland Park 12. Not as deep flavored as Jack Daniels or my favorite bourbon Elijah Craig. Actually, the Black Label reminded me of my Suntory Japanese whisky I have.

Black Label is absolutely beautiful, I think. Very rich with some nice wood. One of my favourate whiskys, including malts.

Black Label is great. It's tasty and interesting and smooth. On top of that it's not expensive. It's accessible to most paletes right away without numbing or too much education. Whenever I get my "single malt only" friends to try it, they're surprised by how good it is. I'd like to do a blind tasting and tell my friends the Black is a single and see how they react.

For me the Black is a superior flavor and complexity over the Green. Better value also. Yeah I know Green is vatted but who cares; Black is not an inferior beverage.

I think Black is better than Blue, but the Gold takes the cake.
