Whilst we are in Scotland .........

We want to visit some distilleries.

We wondered if anyone knew of any that are in walking distance of a camp site or that can be accessed by bus or train.

What about the Malt Disney Whisky tour that I believe goes from Aviemore is it any good what are the costs.

Within walking distance from which camp site? And what distance is your walking distance? Will be glad to help, but I'm afraid there is a camp site within a walking distance from virtually any distillery in Scotland ;-)

The Bells Blair Athol Distillery in Pitlochry is near the train station (London to Inverness GNER). The Edradour distillery is at the back of Pitlochry a few miles.

We've just returned and very much enjoyed the Oban Distillery tour in Oban on the west coast. The Distillery is no more than a 5 minute walk from the Oban train station.

Have a great trip!

A few distillerys I've visited 'by train':

- Ben Nevis Distillery near Fort William; 15 min. walk from the train station in Fort William - IIRC there is also bus stop near the distillery.

- Oban Distillery in Oban; 5 min. walk from the train station in Oban.

- Glen Ord Distillery near Muir of Ord; 15 min. walk from the train station in Muir of Ord.

and some more which should be easy reachable by train:

- Strathisla Distillery in Keith

- Benromach Distillery near Forres

- Clynelish Distillery, Brora

- Blair Athol Distillery, Pitlochry

Now you're talking... While in Pitlochry you cannot miss Edradour - the smallest Scottish distillery and arguably the most ... I don't know ... cute one. With just a pair of virtually mini-stills, just three people operating the whole operations (mind you, there will be considerably more of them taking care of the visitor centre), and superb whisky. I last visited Edradour shortly before it was taken over by Signatory, and at that time admission to the distillery was free of charge. Hope that hasn't changed. And you got a complimentary dram _before_ visiting the rest of the works. So you could just skip the boring stuff and join the next group of visitors for another dram... ;-))) Just kidding, there is nothing _boring_ about Edradour.

I know I'd much prefer to visit this but its the walk that puts me off. There is no chance of drink and drive so we have to go by road 2 miles or across trackless wooded terrain or so it seems from the OS

1:25000 map. Has anyone done the walk from Distillery to Distillery? I don't suppose theres public transport ?

Believe me it's worth it. I've seen them both, and Edradour would be my first choice to visit. Also, 2 miles is not that far away. You could always get a lift - there are lots of whisky buffs on their way there (in their cars, that is).
