You pretty much have to travel, or strike up a friendship with someone who lives where the pickings are better.
It's illegal to ship liquor into B.C. without going through the government, so no company will do so in my experience. Some restaurants and bars order their own, either through the government or with a government permit, and the liquor distribution branch would be able to advise you on how that works. I suspect it's not practical for one-bottle-at-a-time volumes.
But I've exchanged bottles privately through the mail a few times, labelling it either "collector's malt" or something stupid like "maple syrup." Everything got through fine, but if it didn't, you'd have no recourse.
The best selection in town, in case you haven't been there, is the govt liquor store at 39th and Cambie. If memory serves, there's the regular malts section plus a section of relatively exotic stuff beside the fancy wines area.

Thank you.....I will try that location - I also hear that there is a location on Oak st. As I actually live in Burnaby, I often go to Coquitlam as they have the largest scotch collection that I or my friends who drink scotch have seen.
