Whither Leapfrog?

I am a confirmed peat lover and a plot owner with Laphroaig. The local spirit monger (who should be listed as a dependent on my taxes!) has a few bottle of Leapfrog. Should I grab one? Price is somewhat negotiable. What's the most I should pay in US$?

Yes, at least one, better two. I love it!

Definitely grab one (or 2)! Lots of peat, different from the standard 10 YO, but another good dimension of Laphroaig. I paid $70 USD, and would do it again. Slainte, Ed

Hi Jeff,

I just returned from Federal Wine and Spirits (Boston) where I purchased MM Leapfrog for $90 U.S. (Cask Ref MM2868, Distilled March 1987, Bottled April

1999, Cask Type: Bourbon, 46% ABV). This is the only place I've ever seen the Leapfrog, and I'm not certain if this was a good price. I didn't want to pass it by (never to see it again) so I bought it.

I also wanted to try a Laphroaig at cask strength, but the OB 10yo isn't expected here until later in the year. As an alternative I purchased for $95 U.S. a Douglas Laing & Co. Laphroaig 16 yo non-chill filtered/no coloring at cask strength (single cask bottling DL REF 613, 50% ABV distilled February 1987, Bottled April 2003).

As a side note, I also stopped at another shop where I bought a Bowmore 17 OB for $53...I was incorrect in my price ref in one of my previous posts. Also, a Signatory UCF Ardmore 1992 11yo, bourbon barrel, Dist on Feb. 25

1992, Bottled on Aug. 27 2003, Casks 1386+87.

Do readers/posters in here like to see cask/bottling info or is this just clutter? (I know some people keep this type of info with their tasting notes).

I have a pretty bad cold right now so I'm not sure when I'll be opening any of these bottles. Please let me know what price you see for the Leapfrog.

People can always skim the cask info. They don't have to commit it to memory and take an exam. It's thoughtful of you to provide it, and no animals are harmed in the process. The more the merrier!

I guess I'm going to be the only negative voice, but I think Leapfrog is a big disappointment, short on flavor and Laphroaig characteristics. It's my least favorite of all my Islay bottles. Guess that's why I've still got a half bottle left...
