10 years togheter, how's about a Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 1994?

Hi my name is Thomas Vehus, I've been lurking around here for some time now. I am from Norway, 28 years of age and later this coming October my wife(for

2 years) and I have been togheter for 10 straight years. I am not a complete wine newbie, but compared to the pros or semipros in here, I guess I am completely green.

Now, I would really like to find a nice 1994 vintage wine for us to celebrate with. In Norway the authorities has monopoly on all wine and liquer sales. So I'll have to buy something that they can offer. I found one wine that I think we would like. We both love riesling wines so, here goes: Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 1994 from Weingut Markus Molitor. It's only 8% alchol, so I expected to be quite sweet, this is okay, as we will be drinking it without food.

My question is, what's your wiev on this particular wine?

Thanks in advance.

I do not know that producer, but I do know the vineyard and the wine it produces. 1994 was a year that made wines with a high amount of acidity, that need many years to come around. The Zeltinger vineyard is an extension of the more famouse Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard. In many years the Zeltingen vineyard produce wines that are equal to that of its' more famouse neighbor. I have been drinking many 94s and have enjoyed most of them. You will fined that your wine, if properly stored, is drinking very well now.

, key in "Zeltingen" in the field "pollisten" and browse the results (5 wines) - yours seems to be extremely good value!

This is an early Markus Molitor (before he got very famous) and he is one of the few I don't know much about. A 1994 should be pretty ripe by now and I would have expected some mention of petrol overtones. If I recall correctly that was a cool year with high acidity which would explain the longevity. At 180 kroner = 24 Euro it is a good buy. Have a nice evening! Anders
