1992 Dom. Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet "les Pucelles"

While nosing around in my white burgundy bins I happened upon this beauty. I thought I'd drank the last one years ago but this one found it's way into my orphan bin (this is why orphan bins can be a good idea) and I decided to open this one tonight with very simply prepared steamed fresh Maine lobster. The wine was in perfect shape. A pale crystal gold in the glass with no hints of clouding or oxidation. The nose was quite clean from the very moment that I pulled the cork (which was in perfect condition) showing a lemon zest and golden apple aroma with hints of hazelnut and minerals. The wine had a creamy mouthfeel with rich buttery notes and layers of citrus, apples, and sweet vanilla. My guess is that this wine still has a few years more of perfection as it seemed quite stable and really didn't change much over the hour that it took my wife and I to finish the bottle.

Thanks for note. That's a nice find. Usually if I find a wine I thought I had drnk up its a Cotes du Rhone or Bourgogne AC. I really liked this wine when I got a small pour in summer of 2005: "1992 Dom. Leflaive "Les Pucelles " Puligny-Montrachet 1er This and the Ramonet were fine with the lobster. Classy, refined, deep without being heavy. Matt points out that it has a sense of wood but without a buttery vanilla oak thing. I like a lot (others near me disagreed). B+/A- "

Hi Bill,

You're not alone in that, even though living in the same area made it more acute. But I for one hope you can ignore the distraction and continue to post on afw. We've missed your notes.

Bill, I think we're not far apart on the wine, truly typical good Puligny. And my notes were based on a very small pour, it was a goodbye dinner for a friend who was leaving Christrie's NY wine department and there were about 18 of us. So your notes on drinking a bottle are surely far more reliable. And let me add to the chorus of "glad to see you back," as I've always enjoyed your contributions
