TN Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1981, D. Etienne Sauzet

This was the last bottle of Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1981, D. Etienne Sauzet. I had several bottles at one time, but drank the others several years ago. This bottle had been properly stored since release, had a good cork, and had a good fill.

The wine is bright and has a light yellow color. There is no trace of oxidation. The wine is now smooth, and has hints of bees wax in the bouquet. There is good citrus character and enough acid to balance. Also there is some mineral and floral character. Of course it does not have the great intensity and complexity of the top wines from this region, but it is very good still. The attached price sticker was a few cents under $15. Of course all wines were much less expensive when this one was bought, but I can assure you that a top Le Montrachet was far more expensive back then.
