1996 Impala Merlot

Jun 20, 2014 4 Replies

I bought several bottles of this S.African wine quite a few years ago and had it stored in my cellar since 1999. Im wondering how long can it stay stored until it goes bad? And, is it even worth any money? This wine is basically 18 years old. I opened a bottle in 2009 and the taste was VERY good!

Any suggestions and help would be appreciated!

Is this Impala Run? Just open it and try, if storage good you might enjoy. Nothing chanced, there is no monetary value. Impala Run seems to be a supermarket grade wine. No Impala wines even listed on CT, so pretty safe to say there is NO secondary market.

Yes!

I, too, have several bottles of this wine I purchased in 1998/1999 for a few bucks. I looked up the value of this wine and was surprised with the value. In 2009/2010 a bottle was selling upwards of $160. In 2013 the value had dropped a to about $100. I sure hope this wine gains more value as I am willing to hold for a few more years. I WISH I had the source where I found this information as I quickly did a few searches in hopes to give you some insight. Don't open it up just yet

Sure you weren't looking up the price of a 1996 Chevy Impala with 250K miles? Cause that bottle wouldn't bring $10 bid on any wine auction site. :)

The only price I could find was $7 for the Cab.
