I bought four mixed cases of 1998 Girardin reds in 2001 for an average of about $25 per bottle. It was a mixture of about 50% Grand Cru and
50% 1er that were in close out. I've been in no rush to open them but I'm down to about a case left. Last night with Ahi Tuna burgers I pulled a bottle of the 1998 Girardin Beaune 1er "Les Bressands". A slight brickish cast to the wine in the glass. Nice nose of fresh picked beets...dirt and all. The wine was a tad sappy on the palate with black cherry and the impression of sweetness from fairly ripe berry flavors. Strong earthy minerality on the finish. The wine is aging well and should drink well for the next five to ten years. "B"- posted
