In some places (such as Ontario), you can still order Bordeaux futures for the fantastic 2005 vintage. I'm always on the look out for the exceptional values, especially from out of the way but up-and-coming places (Bordeaux Cotes de Francs, Cotes de Castillon). It helps that
2005 was particularly good for the Right Bank, and there are so many interesting nooks and crannies there.
My picks are:
D'Aiguilhe ($39.70 Can.), Count von Neipperg's chateau in Cotes de Castillon.
Chateau Puygueraud ($21.85) and Chateau Marsau from Cotes de Francs.
Gigault Cuvee Viva ($28.80) from Premiers Côtes de Blaye
and Pipeau ($30.95) from Saint-Émilion - a winery that is getting some great accolades from both the Wine Spectator and R. Parker Jr.
Some other of my picks and some background can be found here:
Does anyone else have any other sneaky picks? I'd be interested to know.
