2005 Culler Casaeda Syrah Sonoma Coast

Dec 14, 2007 0 Replies

Karen Culler is a native of Central Ohio na dhas a bit of a cult following around here. Her wines tend to be full bodied and concentrated and the Casaeda lable is her "second" label although at $20 I thought it a bit pricey for a second label wine when her first label is $30.

The wine is inky black in the glass and it coats the glass with a pink sheen when swirled. Deep blackberry notes on the nose with smokey bacon and touches of aoky vanilla. Medium heavy on the palate which very concentrated blackberry, blueberry, plum, and olive notes. Fairly plush tannins on the finish. A bit over the top for my tastes but I did enjoy it with the venison swiss steak that I made for dinner. "B"
