2007 German Wine Harvest

I thought that the following information might be of interest to those of you that are interested in German wines. I just received an email from Johannes Selbach of Selbach-Oster. In general he writes that: 1. The last week of week of August saw the beginning of the harvest in the Pfalz and Rhienhessen for grapes such as Optimam Ortega and the likes, followed by Mueller-Thurgau-Thurgau. 2. The harvest of lesser grapes in the Mosel started on the weekend of 7 September. 3. As it stands now the first picking of Riesling in the Mosel will most likely start on 24 September with most growers planning to start their Riesling harvest on I October. It will be the earliest harvest in many decades. 4. He says that the quality looks very good along the entire Mosel. He There should be plenty of QMP wines. Price will be higher. All of this is, of course contingent on the weather.
