2009 Trimbach Clos Ste Hune and 2001 La Mondotte

I opened a couple of wines from my cellar this weekend:

2009 Trimbach Clos Ste Hune Riesling Alsace with saute of soft shell crabs with morels and spring peas. Lots of diesel notes on the nose initially bu t eventually blowing off with pear and stone aromas. Almost painfully dry and quite tight requiring about an hour of air time to really open up final ly revealing saline mineral notes, apple and pears and a little mint. Grew better with each sip but needs a few years more of age.

2001 La Mondotte St Emilion. Im not sure of the grape makeup for this wine but Merlot and Cab Franc seem to be the usual varietals in La Mondotte. A s an aside I was visiting Canon-La Gaffeliere when the 2001 Mondotte was be ing bottled. The wine is dark reddish purple with a hint of bricking. Nos e is plum and cassis with a bit of smoke. Smooth on the palate, not as big as expected but deep with black cherry, plum, and a strong wet gravel note on the finish.
