a question on tasting technique

I'm not sure why anyone tries to argue with this guy and not simply plonk him. Wasting bandwith.

This is especially true since he says that "tasting" wine is an insult to the winemaker. Care to guess what Tom S. does?

OK folks, we seem to be getting a little too riled upu about this issue. So I'll jump in and keep it warm (hehe).

I taste wine for my job at the winery and I drink wine at home with my wife and dog (though our mini schnauzer seems to be going through a "beer phase", eschewing wine for now) and with friends.

So far, I can't seem to find a right and wrong in this, nor a reason to tell other people what to do.

I know our winemaker does the same: tastes at work, drinks at home, though it may have something to do with not having to drive home... At the winery, we have a keg of beer for the production crew which is drawn upon every afternoon after hard work during crush. Believe me, it takes a lot of beer to make good wine!

As for the appropiateness of each method, it seems uncontestable that when you go winetasting, tasting (as in "trying out") a lot of wines, you taste. You buy what you want to take home to drink, ideally with some food, which tends to make it more enjoyable and also helps in finishing that third bottle without falling to the ground too far from the bed.

It's great to see so much passion in this thread; keep it up!

Cheers, Gaston

as i wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes ....

even the "straight" posts here are hilarious. but this one is special.

'sad enough these sissies ask each others' opinions as to what they should think, what they should drink ... now they're looking for instructions on how to breathe!!!!! hell, salamanders know how to breathe and that species is not appreciable higher on the food chain than an oenophile.

i'll take exception with your comments this time, redhart. based on the location of their heads, a wine enema would surely lead to drowning.
