Alsace

My wife and I will be in Alsace around the end of next month. We'll have a rental car and will slowly drive (four days) from Strasbourg to Colmar. Any recommendations for wineries to visit (or anything else we should do) would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely! Eat at Pierot la Fou in Riquewihr. This is not expensive for what you get - truffles, foie gras etc. The restaurant seats 8 only - a truly remarkable eperience. While in Riquewihr visit Roger Jung et fils. This is a very underrated vineyard with some Grand Cru vineyards and makes excellent and affordable wine.

Don't forget to go to the Musee Unterlinden in Colmar to see the Isselheim Altar tryptych - one of the most important pieces of the Middle Ages. If you want a fantastic meal, eat at Au Crocodil in Strasbourg - expensive, but worth every penny. Forget about Auberge D'Ill, which I think is VERY overrated.

Cheers and have a great time.

For great food and an excellent wine list, and a cuisine that is "made for wine", try Henri Gagneux in his new location at La Palette, Wettolsheim, in the Auberge du Pere Floranc
