Sorry, you can't enclose pictures in mail to newgroups... Deinhard is a big merchant in Germany, mostly middle quality wines. The spelling of Coblenz is a bit ancient, normal is Koblenz today. If you don't see any other names on the label it is probably a generic wine that should have been drunk a long time ago. Check the label again and see whether you can find any more information hth Anders

Hi Cackalack (which happens to sound like the word for "cockroach" in the Scandinavian languages (kakerlakk, kackerlacka) :-) The value, if any, would be to collectors of old bottles of any kind. Generic wine, in my vocabulary, would be an unspecified wine under a standard labeling, but at times with some distinctive feature, for instance as coming from a region, or with a predominant grape variety. "California red", "Moselgold", "Bordeaux Rouge" all convey their supposed geographical origin but nothing else. "Sonoma Zin", "Königsriesling", "Syrah in the Morning" would tell about their grape origins if the label is honest. A wine with simply "Deinhard" on the label certainly is a mix of whatever the company can use and blend to a house style in taste. That would be a bit unusual for Deinhard of today, however, and that's why I asked whether the label had any more information. If not, then I could guess that you have a bottle from, say the early sixties, the fifties or even older. The wine is probably dead (no fruit, no acid, flat, lifeless) but the only way to know for sure is to open it and drink. Anders
