newbie needs help with wine selection please

I'm pretty new at this wine tasting business so you'll have to excuse my ignorance so to speak. I really like the Avery Lane Gewurztraminer. I've tried 3 or 4 different gewurz's and have enjoyed the Avery Lane by far the most. In fact, I'm enjoying a glass right now. :-) Can somebody give me their opinions of what another gewurz might be that I would enjoy as well? I've tried Chateau St.Jean, Columbia Crest and a local winery but haven't enjoyed them nearly as much. Any help would be appreciated and spending under $30 bottle would be nice. regards Skenzer

There are some really fine Gewurztraminer wines from Austria. Often tough to locate for under $30 a bottle, but totally possible. I have personally been enjoying the Weingut Tscheppe (VIN'O Tscheppe, as they now call themselves) 2000 Reserve, and their 2001 and 2002 vintages from the Possnitzberg vineyard are super. The 2001 Summus from Wohlmuth is very good, and the 2000 Gamitzberg from Gross is excellent.

Try an online search tool and see what you can find.

Sorry that I didn't see your post earlier. My first recommendation is anything from Zind-Humbrecht, Alsace, FR. They offer several GW's and start at about your price point, going up as the location becomes better defined, i.e. village, vineyard, etc. They are worth looking in to, and are fairly readily available in the US. I'd also not limit myself to their GW's, as they do some excellent Rieslings and Pinot Blancs.

LOL You got me to think about how many of us have gone to cellars and tasted wine with the winemakers-so this should insult them? when they are pouring? and it is their wine?

taste taste taste and then have the winners to dinner.

Winemakers amke wine to be drunk with meals, not tasted. Wine that is not intended to accompany food does not interest me.
