Beautiful corkscrew

At one time, Rand McNally operated a number of retail stores around the country. One of the items in their product line was a gorgeous little corkscrew. Beautifully machined. The spiral screwed into the handle. It measured about 4 inches by half an inch. It's elegant simplicity made it a work of art.

I purchased two. One found it's way into a compartment in the lid of a presentation box containing two crystal goblets for drinking a toast on going ashore to our last unvisited continent. (The Ross Sea - - a nicely chilled Becker Viognier) The other got confiscated from my shaving kit going through airport security.

Since then, RMcN has closed their retail outlets and I have been unable to find the little corkscrew. Can't believe that it was the only source. Any ideas as to how I could run it down?

TIA

There are so many corkscrews that look somewhat alike that I am not sure if I could identify the one of interest to you from a picture. I suggest you check at eBay often under a corkscrew search. When I just checked there, I found 351 corkscrews for auction or buy now sale. Most include pictures. There are new corkscrews, ones a few years old, and antiques. They are of many types ranging from well-known types to even risque ones.

Contact Frank Milwee Antiques, 2912 M St., NW, Washington, DC (in Georgetown). Mr. Milwee has one of the larger collections of antique wine paraphernalia including corkscrews in the world and is considered an expert. Perhaps he has one or can help you track one down.

Years ago (like 38 years ago) I was in a little antique shop in the French Quarter (New Orleans) and saw a corkscrew the handle of which was made of ivory with one end forming a little hammer and the other a stiff bristled brush. It was probably made in the 1890s. I forget what they wanted for it; $15 - $20? I still regret not buying it. . You should never pass up a good corkscrew. OTHO, $20 was a lot more back then

Right now I'm keeping an eye open for one of the waiter's corkscrews with the double jointed fulcrum arm. I've seen one in use but don't know where to get them.

Do a search for "Pulltap" - that's the brand name.

You can find Pulltap here, also the newer Rialto, which is a bit larger and heftier version of the same thing, but better...
