California retail outlet

Anyone know of a California retailer who can get / carries wines from M. Chapoutier? We've asked Chapoutier directly, but they say they can not ship to us because of their exclusive distribution. But the only distributor I can find, Paterno (out of Chicago), seems to have no relationships in California.

Have a look at some of the listings in winesearcher.com to see if any stores might be local for you:

Some of the listings are auctions, though, keep in mind. Good luck! d.

I've seen some of Chapoutier's wines for sale in Beverages & More (aka BevMo), but I'd expect that you could find them in most large wine retailers. Since you seem to be near Sacto, have you tried Corti Bros?

Paterno distributes wines, at least in Southern California, through Southern Wine & Spirits, and their wines are definitely available at retail here. Their catalog lists some 30 Chapoutier offerings. Try

for on-line retailers too.

I think the basic sales philosophy of Paterno is an account can't get the gems like Chapoutier unless x amount of Santa Margherita and other wines they push are ordered. When I was at retail in MD Paterno would not send current vintages of Ratti wines--they were reserved for DC, NY, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco----to get some Ratti Barolo Marcanesco and fresh Dolcetto we had to commit to x cases of Corvo from Sicily---at the wholesaler's request I contacted the top Italian stores in the state so the wholesaler could justify their order. The new Paterno salesperson at the time worked with me to bring other wines into Maryland but he wasn't meeting his Corvo quota and was fired.
