Cailloux and Cosme

1993 Les Cailloux - now maturing, this wine had a troublesome nose - not corked, although somewhat akin to that. It never abated completely but the underlying fruit became more evident with some time in the glass. In the mouth some depth of fruit and a silky smooth feel, decent length. This will not improve but should hold. A good example of selective purchasing in vintages that are less than top-notch.

1998 Ch. St. Cosme Gigondas - this has moved a fair bit since I last tasted it. White pepper and berries in the sweet nose, good fruit and a bit of pepper in the mouth, the fruit/tannin balance now very good, but with lots of time left. Not quite as good as the 97 (I'd like to taste them side by side sometime), but a good wine.

Bill, are you talking about the ChdP? I bought a case of 1995. Never raved about this wine. No idea why RP rated it well in the nineties.

Correct.

I enjoy the 95 - it has always performed well for me.
