Favorite Inexpensive Cali Chard?

Gallo of Sonoma isn't bad in the low end of that range (on sale) and it's very widely available. Benziger, Villa Mount Eden, Clos du Bois, Geyser Peak, La Crema and Belvedere are a few others that fall into that range and that I've found to be pleasant drinking.

I usually don't drink Card at that price point (Sav Blanc tends to be better for that amount of money, in my opinion), but I think Jekel and Markham put out drinkable stuff, and both should be widely available (depending on where you are, of course).

J.Lohr is very good for a Californian Chardonnay, and (at least in Denmark) reasonable in price.

I have heard that the most recent (2001/2002? Vintner's Reserve?) K-J Chardonnays are "decent". I got this second hand from some wine reviewer and have no firsthand knowledge. Just thought I'd let you know in case you felt brave enough to try another bottle.

Jess Jackson the owner of Kendall Jackson has just about run the word "reserve" into the ground with that wine. Souverain makes some outstanding Chardonnays for the money. It is a favorite among some of the wine professionals in Sonoma County. I am buying Heitz Chardonnay and Rodney Strong Chalk Hill Vineyard for about the same price and they are both excellent.

I agree that Heitz and Rodney Strong Chalk Hill are great Chards, but here in the Northeast they cost more that $15. For some reason Chateau Souverain costs less.

Burgess has lowered the price on their Chardonnay to around $15.00. Bi!!

Kendal Jackson, J. Lohr, Sterling. Meridien's okay if you like a lighter Chard.

J Lohr and Sterling are pretty good. Kendall Jackson's Anniversary edition is good, but their so-called "reserve" is now just so-so.
