folding a napkin to catch wine drips

Aug 25, 2003 6 Replies

Several years ago in Spain, a waiter opened my wine bottle, and then folded a napkin around the neck of the bottle to catch any drips. His folding technique was very neat and interesting, but I have forgotten exactly how he did it. I have used a simple overhand knot, but what he did was much nicer.

I searched google, but could not find any information on how to do this. Any clues?????

I did that in my early days. Now I use a "DropStop"™ foil which works much better anyhow.

One of those came hung on the neck of Delicato Merlot I purchased a while back. I must say that it works great.

Yup, I was given one a few months ago by Mme Spelty in Chinon. It works wonders. I was a little skeptical hearing Michael P and Ian talk about it on this forum, but I'm sure convinced now!

How many others out there use the dropstop?

Me, if I can remember where I put them. I bought a pack of three, retail to try them out. They worked well, but seemed expensive for what they are.

Then I went to a commercial tasting and they had some smart printed Dropstops. I asked where he managed to get them printed because they looked nice and he gave me a handful. And I mean a handful, when I got home there was over twenty of the shiny silver discs in my grubby little hands.

Trouble is, I los them all the time, or I give them to people to try. I'll go and hunt them out now ...

Yahoo! First real Danish contribution to the wine world!

I do - it's used as an present to costumers in the company my wife works for, so the sources are almost unlimited :-)

True. But more and more wine related companies find it a useful advertising gadget and distribute them as give-aways.

Anyhow: One can always cut a plastic foil into a more or less cercle shape. Works just as well at almost nada cost.

Just as I have always have a corkscrew in my pocket, I carry 2 or

3 dropstops in my wallet.
