Free wine?

All I get from this is maybe some traffic, though I'm sure Broadbent wines might benefit too.

5 So basically you can take the quiz and if you win you get wine. Don't worry about finishing the test either, I haven't recieved many entries. So chances are someone will win who didn't do much work.

Have fun, Ryan

May I offer a friendly word of caution.

You have posted on an international newsgroup with subscribers in many countries, the US having the largest number.

I can inform you that, although internet gambling in perfectly legal for NZ residents, it is illegal to even offer alcohol as a prize in any sort of game of chance in New Zealand - and that is exactly what you are doing.

Furthermore, although I have only a modicum of understanding of the very complex laws within the USA in respect to the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages, I would be amazed if your solicitation was not felonious in one or more States.

I would also point out that you may well be unable to even deliver the prize should the "winner" reside in one of those States which prohibit interstate shipment, outside of recognised and legitimate channels.

I sincerely warn against your proposal.

Ok point taken though the US part I have to say should not be a problem. Broadbent wines has distributors in almost every state so I'm sure he can have the wine, not "shipped" but handed over (nothing felonious in that). As far as New Zealand, well that's news to me. If someone happens to win from there, I guess they'll have to come collect the prize in another location. I would be happy to put an exception in the rules if you can point me to this law.

As it is now, the first few entries I get will probably win anyways. I am not the one though in charge of the prize, I posted the quiz as a fun thing to do on my site. When Bartholomew offered the wine, I simply added that as a bonus Bartholomew offering wines to the winner, and I asked him what problems he saw in shipping the wine. Having been in the wine industry far longer than me, and having shipped wine for a living, he assured me that he would have no problem getting the wine to the winner. If and when I get an entry they probably will be contacted by BB and hopefully he can get them the wine. If not maybe a non alcoholic corkscrew or bar towel?

I understand your concern and the whole idea that alcohol is something so dangerous to ship is kinda ridiculous. It's not like a minor is going to get there buddies together to try to wine an high end wine by entering a contest just so they can catch a buzz! As far as the US laws go, well I worked there, and Bartholomew lives there and deals with those laws everyday, people are sick of them. They are dumb outdated dinosaurs that need to change. Fortunatley in this instance shipping is not an issue.

So if your in New Zealand, maybe you don't enter, if your in it just for the wine. If you just want to test your knowledge then have fun. I will have the scores up a week or so after the contest is done.

Thanks for the ideas,

Ryan
