Mauresmo's reward

I thought you might be amused by this little excerpt from the NY Times account of Amelie Mauresmo winning her first Grand Slam titile at the Australian Open yesterday when her opponent had to withdraw because of illness:

"Mauresmo kissed Henin-Hardenne on both cheeks and kept her celebration to a respectful minimum.

She knows too well what it's like not to be able to play up to your potential in big matches. Now she can celebrate in appropriately French style.

"I have a special bottle of wine I kept for my first Grand Slam title," Mauresmo said of her Château d'Yquem 1937. "It's at home waiting for me very quietly in the dark at the right temperature."
