New URL for FAQ site

The new url for the FAQ web site for this group is

formatting link
. I have just pointed the name servers to it and it is working for me. It could be another day or two before those in some locations can reach the site. I takes some time to associate the name of the site with the string of numbers that is the real address This site is a subdomain of my domain cwdjr.net. Thus the FAQ will not work unless the main domain is working. If you can not get the winefaq site after a day or two, go to
formatting link
Then reload the current page with your browser controls. If you are getting the domain on the main server, then the message will be "On new server. Bye" If you get the message "Bye", you are still on the old server that will be disconnected in about two weeks. Since this is a new name for the FAQ subdomain site, it will not be found on the old server. If you still have problems, post here.

The character encoding has been changed from (iso-8859-1) to Unicode (UTF-8). Most new browsers now come with this set be default, but you can select from various character encoding on your browser. The advantage of Unicode is that it can display characters in nearly all languages. This will be of no concern for most of you, but it might be of concern to Mark Lipton when he makes updates. You can add all of the special characters and symbols of Eastern European languages if you wish. You can do the same for some Oriental languages, but downloads of character sets may be required for some computers to display these languages.

The site loads just fine for me, so the DNS records have propagated at least as far as Comcast's name servers. REgarding the character encoding, no problems: I already post my version to the newsgroup as a UTF-8 document, so that's what you should be getting, too.

Hi Mark

May I respectfully suggest that you change your tag line on your signature, to the new address!

Owing to the continued, rapid expansion of the NZ wine scene, I am also going to review the NZ segment - how do you want me to handle this - I am thinking along the lines of a complete re-write - correcting some formatting "inconsistencies".

Would send that to you as a .doc file - if that is OK.

It won't happen overnight, but will happen!

Cheers

Good point, milud. The purpose of the Peerage is now made clear to a simple commoner such as myself. See the results in my sig now (I'll have to change it on my other computers tomorrow). No problem about the .doc file: that's how I operate anyway. Do you want me to send you the current version as a .doc file? And no hurry -- I've got plenty of work on the FAQ to keep me busy.
