Pick-Me-Ups For New Year's Morning

At least here in the US, if anyone has too much to drink it is usually on New Year's Eve. Of course none of the fine regulars of this group would have that problem, but you might have some guests who do. Here are a few very old US pick-me-ups that are at least 50 years old. Offer your guest with a hangover one of these as soon as he or she is up and about on New Year's day.

FLIPPANT HEN: Place a whole raw egg in a short glass of beer.

PRARIE OYSTER: Place one raw egg in a small glass. Add 1 tsp Worchestershire sause, a few drops of Tobasco(hot pepper sauce), and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Drink in one gulp.

SEA CAPTAIN'S SPECIAL: Place a small lump of sugar in an old fashioed glass and douse it with Angostura bitters. Add 1 1/2 jiggers of rye whiskey and one lump of ice. Fill with Champagne. Top with a few dashes of absinthe. This is a way to get rid of that left over, slightly flat, Champagne. You may have to use a substitute for the rye and absinthe in many countries.

PORTO FLIP: Shake 4 oz. of port wine, 1 raw egg, 1 oz. of thick cream, and a dash of Benedictine wth cracked ice. Strain into a wineglass and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Give me a large tall glass or tomato juice with a very generous portion of vodka. A couple of drops of Tabasco; one teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce; salt & pepper to taste.

Three or four of these, and the previous night is forgotten [not to mention the forthcoming afternoon]

(I do not have a drinking plobrem)
