Ping: Max - re Sotheby's wine book review Nov 2001

"More generally, if you found a random bottle of wine that you were interested in, there is a decent chance you could look it up in Stevenson and learn much more.

This is the best single-volume general wine reference I'm currently aware of. I have recommended it to several people who wanted to learn more about wine and all of them have been very satisfied."

I have been trying to decide between two books - this one and the Hugh Johnson Atlas coming out in September 2007. I like the layout of Sotheby's.

The other day DH bought a bottle of Santorini wine which he had heard about, and just for fun while in Borders I looked it up in Sotheby's, but couldn't find but a short paragraph or two on any wine of Santorini. I was expecting more - in your opinion, should I have been expecting something like this to be included?

Also I'm wondering if this book could be a little out of date, as I read another reviewer stating that it was hardly updated from the 1997 (I believe) version.

Thanks for any answer. Dee
