Re: 1994 Fritz, 1990 Chapoutier

: 1990 Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne - slightly hot and with a slightly corky : nose. Decent up front concentration, then immediately gets thin and acidic. A : bad bottle, but I have never found this wine even when not corked, to live up : to it's early good reviews, principally that of Parker, who also gave a much : better review to the 1993 vintage of the same wine than it deserved based on : tasting from bottle. I wonder why it should show such a large difference from : barrel (which is what RP presumably based his review on) to bottle?

Bill - don't know about the '90, but had the '89 recently. I'm not sure what RP gave it, but it was definately a 90+ wine. Drinking very well, but the flavors were more like a wall instead of a lattice.

Interesting question, Bill. In the case of the '93, I think that it just faded incredibly quickly, even before they got it into bottle. I'll have to try my '90 Sizeranne soon and see if I agree (while waiting for the '89 to come around...)
