Er, obviously I meant the the "other" Tuscans (Chiantis, SuperTs, Carmignanos, etc).

Were the 10 BdM you tasted all from one vintage? I haven't been too impressed with samples from 1998s (although I think I liked Caparzo and Uccelliera).

Interesting to hear old rotten wood complaint, as most complaints I hear are re the number of modern-style (new oak barrique) producers these days.

Ineresting to hear of a BdM in chestnut. I've heard of chestnut casks in Sardinian or Sicily, and somewhere north (Piemonte?). Are there other areas you know chestnut is used much?
