Hello,
That seemed awful high to me so I checked winesearcher.com and found pricing of $8.99 to $12.13 for this wine in this vintage which is more like it. So the store owner is clearly trying to sell you more and make you think you are getting a bargain that does not exist.
Louis Latour wines at the top levels (ie the $75+ grand crus) are quite disappointing to me, but at the other end of the spectrum in the $6-20 range, I have found their clean commercial style results in tasty wines that are quite good values and perfect for gifts to wine lovers and newbies alike.
2000 was a light vintage however, so I would suggest you pull a cork and taste this stuff to be sure how you feel about it. If it has some good fruit to it, then rest assured this is a great QPR for Pinot Noir from France, or anywhere else for that matter. It usually is in most vintages, but in a variable year like 2000 it pays to try the wine first to be sure.Tom.
