Has anyone read it?

Recommendable?

I posted on this a couple of months. I did read and will recommend, with the reservation that Theise will sometimes drift a little too far into geekiness and wine mysticism for my taste. It is nevertheless a nice account of his long and still-evolving relationship to wine. I think anyone who enjoys wine, regardless of level of sophistication, will find a lot to like in the book.

I also posted at the time about Palmento, by Robert Camuto, which I can recommend wholly without reservation. I was predisposed to like the book, but as an evocation of place and character it is superb. I challenge you to read the first 10 pages and not want to jump immediately on a plane to Sicily. I don't think Sicily is necessarily unique in the variety of its wine-making approaches, the breadth of ownership or the silliness of some of its winemakers, but he gives what, for me, was a comprehensive view of the ebbs and flows in the island's wine-making past, present and future. My only criticism is that Camuto is too comprehensive. He, seemingly, visits every winery of every type on the island (and even on some outlying islands such as Pantelleria). I was eventually exhausted. And though he clearly has favorites among both winemakers and some of their wines, he is generous to all of them. It is a very evocative, even somewhat nostalgic, book. A lot of the Sicily he describes is disappearing rapidly. I highly recommend.

Was my first purchase with the kindle... found it boring as hell. I have enjoyed Terry's catalogues with delight and I feel that "publishing a book" has made Terry lose the fresh writing, so the reading is really tedious. In fact, all that I read from the books gravitates around very few (and beaten to death) subjects.

I will not recommend it to anyone.

Santiago, Do you have access to Terry Theise Selections in Spain? I wouldn't have guessed that his business dealt with "importation" across EU borders, but what the heck do I know? Or do you just read his catalogues for giggles?

No. But some wineries that are imported by Terry Theise are also imported into Spain. I have been reading his catalogues since 2004 or so, which was a time where not much information was given on most wineries so finding such a valuable resource as his catalogues was very good.

Moreover... I have the feeling that many wineries that are imported by Terry Theise into the USA have found an importer in a third country (including Spain) just because Terry's catalogues have been used as a secondary source of information at a time when there was not much information available.
