Roter Veltliner

Anyone familiar with this grape? I saw it in a local market and had never come across it before. I didn't buy it, but probably will go back for it just to quell my curiosity. According to it is not related to GV. And why is it named Roter? The wine is white, but perhaps the grapes have red skins, or the vines have red stems or foliage?

This IS a red grape originally from the Valtellina area (Italy bordering Switzerland). Vinified as a red wine it gives pale colours (gris?), so in fact it is often vinified as white. Jancis calls it a mutation of GV, but it isn't related at all.
