Ruinart Rose, Burgundy

Met some friends for dinner at a local restaurant that was featuring Champagne specials. The NV Ruinart Rose was listed at $49.99 so we started with a bottle. Nice clean bright flavors of cherry and red berries, fine mousse and nice fruity finish "B+". We followed it with a bottle of 2002 Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin. Medium red in the glass showing a touch of age at the rim. A bit tight on the nose showing tart cherry and a bit of iron. Medium bodied on the palate with firm acidity and tannic structure. Flavors of red raspberries, cherries, a bit of wild mushroom with a lot of "sous bois". Plenty of minerality and earthy notes on the finish. "B"

My preference is the Ruinart Blanc de Blanc but the Rose is nice. Still have 2 bottles of the Faiveley that I was planning on holding a bit longer.

for a restaurant, great price on the Ruinart! good notes, thanks
